Doxycycline is listed by the World Health Organization as an Essential Medicine and has been in use since 1967. This drug is a broad-spectrum, anti-bacterial, anti-protozoa drug used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Doxycycline kills bacteria by preventing the production of protein which feeds them, including the protozoa. This drug could be administered orally or by means of intravenous injection.

About Packaging and How It Is Administered Orally
This broad-spectrum anti-biotic is available in tablet form, coated capsule, syrup and suspension forms to be taken orally in an easy and convenient manner. It is taken once or twice daily, depending on doctor’s prescription. A full glass of water is more than enough for each dose. However, if the patient experiences an upset stomach, the tablet or the coated capsule could be taken with food or a glass of milk. Since food and milk may decrease the quantity of drug absorption by the body, it is important to talk with your physician about taking Doxycycline with food or milk.
